Recent Letters To Dewey…

From our librarian…:

It all looks so great, and the response has been incredible! We’re adding to
the lists right now, and will keep a close eye on them. Thank you guys so
much, I can’t tell you how exciting this is for us!

From one of the original pamie.com readers…:

Pam,

Just wanted to thank you for publicizing the horrible state of the library system down here in Harrison County, MS. I’ve been down here since the beginning of April helping the city of Pass Christian to remove all the debris and homes that need to be demolished.

Since I will be here until the end of June (and I’m ONLY going home because my boss refuses to let me stay any longer), I would like to go donate the books in person. I would also like to take pictures so that you have them to post in the blog. I’ll be taking a chunk of the OT I’m making down here and buying a bunch of books at B&N (only because it is the only bookstore around here open) and will let you know how many books I bought. Since the Corps is working specifically in “the Pass”, I would like to donate the books directly to that library. I’ve seen the trailer they are working out of and it just kills me to think that the tiny place is THE place to get books.

Thanks for picking a great part of the country. The people here are amazing and so determined to rebuild and make this beautiful area even better than it was before Katrina. The citizens of Gulfport have been very gracious about making sure the relief workers have a place to stay, even though we aren’t working for their city. There are no hotels in Pass Christian (nor places to eat, save for the Shell station).

If anything doesn’t work, or if they have asked that donations be made to a specific place or in a specific manner, please let me know. Otherwise I’ll have the donation and pictures by the end of this week. Let me know if you’d like anything else.

Thanks again!

Michelle (aka rowEn)
